Ember & Tide - WA BLACKBUTT-228

From raw timber to something that tells a story…

This 880 x 400 x 30mm slab of WA Blackbutt started as a standout piece the moment I saw it — heavy figure, natural movement and character that deserved to be highlighted, not hidden.

Shaping this one was all about working with the timber. Keeping that flow in the grain, softening the edges, and carving out the handle to feel solid in the hand but still clean and balanced.

Designed as a true double-sided Asado board —

• One side: black tinted resin paired with a deep juice groove, built for carving straight off the fire, catching every drop

• Other side: Whitehaven-inspired resin, clean, bright and made for charcuterie spreads, cheeses, meats and entertaining

It’s that contrast that makes this piece — dark, bold and functional on one side… light, coastal and refined on the other.

Using @oakfieldclear resin and finished in my own beeswax oil, it’s sealed, protected and ready to be used properly — not just sit on a shelf.

From the BBQ to the table, from fire to feast — this is the kind of board that becomes part of the moment.
