Care & Maintenance

Avoid the dishwasher and never let your board sit in water.

  • Clean your piece promptly with light soapy water and a soft sponge. Quickly rinse and dry thoroughly with a cloth. Position boards vertically to air dry, ensuring even flow to both sides and prevent warping. Avoid leaving damp timber flat on surfaces. Store Safely

Preserving the structural integrity of your Australian hardwood requires correct storage. Enhance the longevity of your timber by adopting these specific habits:

  • Prioritize Airflow: Keep boards upright or on racks to allow air to reach every surface equally; this is vital to ensure both sides dry at the same rate. Prevent Surface Damage: Do not leave timber resting flat on counters, particularly when moist, to avoid cupping. Maintain Temperate Conditions: Store items away from stoves or humid zones to avoid stress. Questions? Email vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au.

The Waxing Steps

Apply premium beeswax to ensure your board remains resilient and visually stunning.

1. Ensure Surface is Ready

Prior to waxing, confirm the timber is scrubbed clean and fully air-dried. Never coat a board that still holds moisture, as sealing in dampness can ruin the wood fibers. Contact vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au for tips.

2. Coat the Wood Wood

Using a soft applicator, spread a thick layer of food-safe beeswax across the grain. Cover every corner and edge for total sealing. If you have questions about reach out to us at our main address: vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au today.

3. Polish to a Soft Glow

Allow the treatment to penetrate for 20 minutes before buffing. Wipe away the extra residue with a dry cloth to reveal a water-repellent finish that celebrates the unique grain. For help with difficult spots, email vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au for expert advice.

Care FAQ

Is it safe to use the dishwasher?

Definitely not. Extreme temperatures will destroy the grain and lead to splitting. Hand wash only then email vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au.

What if the board stays in the sink?

Wood is porous and will swell if submerged. This causes unfixable warping and rot. Wash and dry it immediately to keep it safe and looking great.

When is it time to re-wax?

Aim for every month or when the timber looks faded. Regular conditioning with beeswax keeps the hardwood durable. Direct any care queries to vando@vandoswoodshop.com.au.
